We're having our first winter with our Castile Insert. Up until now, we've been very happy! Today, it suddenly developed a very large flame that filled the ENTIRE firebox! This wasn't a "tall" flame, but was unlike any we've ever seen on this stove. The stove made a racket... and the floor was vibrating, and every square inch of the firebox was filled with a hot intense flame. I shut the thermostat, and let the fire burn out.
On calling my stove dealer, he told me the stove probably needed a cleaning. I thought I kept it pretty clean... But I humored him and gave it a very thorough cleaning.
I'm now a bit nervous about using the stove. I will certainly not run it unattended as I had been. I'm really quite sure if I had not been there to turn off the thermostat, the house would have ended up burning down.
